Joanne Bowskill and Holly Boal, together with their Get Kids Cooking team, have taught over 85,000 Aussie kids how to cook and appreciate healthy and nutritious homemade food.
Their vision is to empower primary school students with the cooking skills and healthy food literacy to make nutritious food choices, and grow up and feed themselves. This would help the wider community realise savings to public health, as well as the improved quality of life, as these children grow up and become adults.
Schools are a sensible and popular setting to implement programs that equip students with cooking skills because they offer continuous, intensive contact with children during their formative years. Educating students about cooking is at the cornerstone of good health and gives them a motivating way to take ownership of their food choices.
Get Kids Cooking is working towards building capability through nutritious cooking education programs that will develop collective capacity for the school community to create a healthy future for the students.
